Keralam Police are investigating synagogue arson accused Ebin B. Paul’s Telegram communications with an unidentified handler named "Boss" to confirm potential ties to the transnational Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
With Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff shooting case hogging headlines, allegedly masterminded by the Bishnoi gang, the Keralam Police is now on alert.
The Kavumbhagam synagogue arson accused Ebin has confessed to orchestrating the fire and earlier petrol bomb dry runs in Muvattupuzha solely to make money.
The probe into the arson attack at a synagogue in Kochi has taken a new turn, with Ebin's mobile phone having Telegram chats with a group called "Lawrence Bishnoi".
Police suspect the "Boss" mentioned in Ebin's chat could be referring to either a group leader or a member of the chat group. But police are puzzled as several Lawrence Bishnoi chat groups exist, including the "Lawrence Bishnoi Official" group.
Anish Joy, station house officer of Ernakulam Central police station, told The Telegraph that they have sought official clarifications from the "Telegram Messenger" group on the authenticity of the chat group Ebin had been chatting with.
When police checked Ebin’s phone, they found he had been chatting with a person addressed as Boss, who belongs to the Lawrence Bishnoi group on Telegram Messenger.
"We need to find the veracity of the Lawrence Bishnoi group chat, whether it’s the original quotation gang or a namesake group. Our enquiry has also found that Ebin had initially targeted an unoccupied house at Muvattupuzha and also a used-car showroom where he hurled petrol bombs. He received ₹5,000 in cryptocurrency for the latter attack and gradually the 'Boss' escalated the assignments by giving the arson attack at the synagogue from a different Telegram message," Joy said.
Police have found out that both the accounts belong to the same "Boss". Ebin belongs to an aristocratic Christian family in Kochi who are devastated by the developments. He used to lock his room and remain indoors. The family confirmed to the police that he hardly had any friends and the parents used to give him money on and off. Though Ebin is cooperating with the police, at times, he is mum. When the investigating team asked Ebin the motive behind the arson attacks, he said: "I want to make money." After five days in custody, Ebin has been remanded again. The police will take his custody again after two days.
