Serbia's Organized Crime Prosecutor's Office has launched a preliminary investigation following an interview with former Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) activist Momcilo Marjanovic published by the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN), the Danas newspaper reported Friday.
The prosecutor's office confirmed that on October 15 it asked the Criminal Police Directorate to collect information and evidence concerning possible criminal offenses within its jurisdiction.
In the interview published on October 13, Marjanovic said he had organized groups of men who intimidated and physically attacked citizens during student-led protests on behalf of the ruling SNS. He alleged that Nenad Barac, director of the Novi Sad public heating company, paid him in cash for these activities and for daily allowances for his associates, claiming he received more than 400,000 euros over two years. Marjanovic also alleged that more than 100 people carrying pistols were present at the government supporters' encampment known as Cacilend on March 15, 2025, and that police knew about and coordinated the activities. These are allegations made by Marjanovic; the investigation will establish whether there is evidence of criminal wrongdoing.
