MSRP
- Substantial range, roomy and comfortable cabin, top trims can go bumper-to-bumper with a V-8 Mustang to 60 mph.
- No V-8 thunder to go with the speed; doesn't match a gas Mustang for back road thrills.
- While some might consider a silent Mustang blasphemous, it's impossible to argue with the Mach-E's deft blend of efficiency, practicality, and speed.

VERDICT
Overview
An electric compact SUV might not be what most people picture when fantasizing about owning a Ford Mustang, but the Mustang Mach-E is desirable in its own right. With four doors, five seats, and an electric powertrain, it might appear that the only things that the Mach-E shares with its enduring pony-car namesake are some styling similarities and the palomino between its headlights, but there's more to the story.
In top GT guise, it pumps out 480 horsepower and can charge to 60 in 3.7 seconds—that ties it with the last
V-8-powered Mustang GTthat we tested. If you can spare a few horses in exchange for additional thriftiness, the most efficient single-motor, rear-wheel-drive model should deliver over 300 miles of range, according to the EPA. Beyond being a quick and efficient EV, the Mach-E's interior is decked out with plenty of convenience features and is spacious for four adults and their luggage.
Expert Tip: If you aren’t emotionally connected to the Mustang name and want to save some dough, take a look at the Hyundai Ioniq 5. It's our top pick in the compact electric SUV segment for nailing the basics while putting its cool personality on full display.

What's New for 2027?
The Mach-E sees a few changes for the 2027 model year. All Mach-Es were previously offered with either a standard or an extended range battery pack, but Ford has now taken choice out of the equation. Select and Premium trims now come exclusively with an 88-kWh pack—an upgrade from the 70-kWh standard range pack from last year—while GT and Rally trims come with the higher-capacity 91-kWh battery configuration.
A new $2295 Trail package has also been added to the lineup for 2027, although it can only be ordered on the all-wheel drive Select trim. It sports a raised and specially tuned suspension, a steering rack shared with the off-road-oriented Rally trim, and 19-inch wheels.
C/D Expert Tip:
If this year's model is largely unchanged and you're comfortable with a lightly used car, you may want to consider shopping previous model years. A one-to-three-year-old model will likely have a warranty and it'll cost less than buying new.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
EV Motor, Power, and Performance
- EV Motors: 264-hp single motor, 272-hp single motor, 325-hp dual motor, 370-hp dual motor, 480-hp dual motor
- Drivetrains: rear-wheel-drive, all-wheel-drive
RWD versions of the Select and Premium trims feature a single electric motor. These less powerful models make either 264 or 272 horsepower. There's a motor on each axle in AWD variants of all four trims. The AWD versions of the Select and Premium trims make anywhere from 325 to 370 horsepower.
In the GT and GT Performance models, which only come with AWD, those motors combine to make 480 horsepower and up to 600 pound-feet of torque. The GT with the Performance upgrade and the Mach-E Rally bump up the torque figure to a whopping 700 pound-feet.
In our last encounter with the Mach-E—a rear-wheel-drive Select model—we found it to be smooth and comfortable, but not so entertaining to drive. The more powerful versions, though, are quicker and more engaging than most rivals. Beyond the various power levels available, we think that shoppers will appreciate the Mach-E's feature set, quiet operation, and smooth ride.
0–60-MPH Times
- C/D 60-mph Test: 5.6 seconds (2026 Select RWD), 3.1 seconds (2024 Rally), 3.7 seconds (2021 GT Performance)
In Comparison: In C/D testing, the Ioniq 5 Limited AWD hit 60 mph in 4.6 seconds while the Ioniq 5 XRT all-wheel-drive edged it out with a 4.5-second time.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
- C/D EV Range Estimate: 280-320 miles
The Mustang Mach-E is available with either an 88.0-kWh battery or a 91.0-kWh pack, depending on the trim. Lower-tier Select and Premium models get a new 88-kWh pack for 2027, replacing the 70-kWh standard pack offered last year. GT and Rally trims get the 91-kWh pack.
Every Mach-E comes with DC fast-charging capability at a rate of up to 150kW. The included mobile home charging unit, when plugged into a 120-volt household outlet, can add up to 30 miles of range per night, says Ford. Plug the mobile unit into a 240-volt outlet, and Ford claims that it can replenish up to 80 percent of battery capacity overnight. Ford also sells a more powerful home charging station that needs to be installed by certified electricians. When hooked up to that device, the Mach-E's battery gains up to 28 miles of range for every hour of charging. An adapter is available to allow charging on Telsa Superchargers.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe
Last year, the EPA rated the base, rear-drive Mustang Mach-E with the small battery pack at up to 110 MPGe city and 96 MPGe highway. With the new 88-kWh pack, we expect to see higher figures for 2027. We'll update this section once the EPA has released updated fuel economy figures for the Mach-E. MPGe stands for miles per gallon of gas equivalent, an EPA metric that estimates PHEV and EV fuel efficiency.
We haven't yet subjected a Mustang Mach-E to our 75-mph highway fuel economy route, part of our extensive testing regimen, so we haven't evaluated its real-world range. For more information about the Mach-E's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
First Row: Front seating is spacious with upscale-feeling faux-leather upholstery for the seats, storage bins in the doors, and a 10.2-inch instrument screen for driver information. A single-check option on the base model brings a heated steering wheel and front seats, and a memory function for the 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat and sideview mirrors.
Second Row: Second row seating is spacious, thanks in part to the skateboard design that sandwiches the battery between the interior floor and the bottom of the car. It features a 60/40 folding backrest, a folding center armrest, and pockets on the doors and the backs of the front seats.
Cargo Capacity: Behind the rear seats, the load bay offers 29 cubic feet of cargo room, and up to 59 cubic feet with the back seats folded. A Power liftgate is standard on the premium trim. In our testing, we managed to fit seven carry-on suitcases in the Mustang Mach-E's trunk; with the rear seats stowed, we fit 20.
Infotainment and Connectivity
- Infotainment: 15.0-inch touchscreen
- Connectivity: Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Audio System: 6-speaker stereo (standard), 10-speaker Bang and Olufsen (optional)
A vertically mounted 15.0-inch touchscreen running the latest version of Ford's Sync software serves as command central for infotainment operations. Navigation is standard, as is a complimentary three-month Satellite radio subscription. Two 12-volt power ports provide juice for accessories, and voice-activated climate control is standard.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
The Mustang Mach-E is available with a wide array of driver-assistance technology, including Ford's BlueCruise hands-free driving tech.
- Standard Safety Features: automated emergency braking with forward-collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert
- Optional Safety Features: adaptive cruise control with hands-free driving mode
For information about the Mach-E's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites.
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Ford's current limited and powertrain warranties are competitive, albeit unspectacular. Notably, the company covers the Mach-E's electrical components for eight years or 100,000 miles, which it does for all its EVs, but complimentary maintenance isn't included.
- Limited Warranty: three years or 36,000 miles
- Powertrain Warranty: five years or 60,000 miles
- Electrical Components: eight years or 100,000 miles
- Complimentary Maintenance: none
