The following article contains spoilers from the episode of Emmerdale dated October 16. It hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX and YouTube.
An Emmerdale resident has wiped the smug smile from Robert Sugden’s (Ryan Hawley) face after a tense evening of poker.
Earlier this week, Robert and Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) arrived at The Hide ready to reopen the business after Robert bought the place from Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham).
When the duo arrived, they were shocked to find it completely empty.
Gabby then rocked up with a smirk on her face. It became apparent that she had got revenge on Robert after he took advantage of her. She removed every single item from the restaurant and cancelled all of the permits and licences, knowing Robert wouldn’t be able to do anything about it.

He tried, of course he did. Robert threatened to sue Gabby over what she had done, but she knew that a legal case would take ages to complete – and Robert also didn’t have the money to fund one.
So, what was he going to do? Robert didn’t have any cash to buy the equipment to fill The Hide – he needed to find it.
Watching Claudette and Charles Anderson (Flo Wilson and Kevin Mathurin) play a game of poker in the pub gave Robert an idea.
In today’s episode, he invited Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson), Joe Tate (Ned Porteous), Claudette and Kev Barton (Chris Coghill) to The Hide for a high stakes poker match.
Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) was apprehensive, but Robert was confident things would work in his favour. He said that while he was in prison with Kev, they’d pass the time by playing poker.
The game saw Claudette rinse the lads, which meant they had to get rid of her. With Jai out of his depth, he left as well, leaving just Joe playing against Robert.
During their final round, things were tense. If Robert lost, Joe would become the new owner of The Hide but, if he won, he’d take Joe’s £100k.
Amazingly, Robert was victorious…but only because he rigged the final round.
£100k richer, Robert took Serena, Aaron and Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) to the pub to celebrate.
It was at this point that the power went right to Robert’s head. For some reason, instead of keeping the bag of money glued to his chest, he hid it in the corner of one of the pub chairs.
Honestly? What was he thinking?!
Distracted and far too focused on letting everyone know about his win, Robert failed to notice that someone had stolen the money.
Nightmare.
This was Robert’s key to opening The Hide – and now it’s gone. But who stole it?
It could’ve been Joe, maybe Kev, or maybe Claudette said no to an early night, snuck into the Woolie and grabbed it.
Robert needs that cash, whether he can find it is another thing entirely…
