Morigaon (Assam), Oct 13 (PTI): The Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam’s Morigaon district reopened on Tuesday for tourists for the 2026-27 season after remaining closed for the monsoon.
The state’s Environment and Forest Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah reopened the sanctuary, a major habitat of the Asian one-horned rhinoceros, with newly elected Nagaon BJP MP Devasish Sharma in attendance.
“Pleased to reopen the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary for the new tourism season, welcoming nature lovers and tourists back to its rich biodiversity,” Baruah said.
He also inaugurated a Wildlife Museum and a souvenir shop within the sanctuary premises.
The minister said the number of jeeps for safari has been increased from 20 to 36 to accommodate more tourists visiting the sanctuary this year.
Baruah also said elephant safaris are expected to be ready for tourists in November.
