HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, the intermediate holding company of HD Hyundai's shipbuilding sector, held an opening ceremony for the 'Global Marine Center' with Siemens Digital Industries Software in Haeundae-gu, Busan, on Oct. 13.
Key officials from both companies, including HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering CEO Kim Hyung-kwan and Siemens Chief Revenue Officer Robert Jones, attended the event on this day to solidify their commitment to cooperation.
The Global Marine Center will house 50 professionals from both companies, including experts in ship production and design such as hull, electrical, piping, and cabin, as well as specialists in artificial intelligence platforms and product lifecycle management. They plan to focus on advancing the 'Next-Generation Marine Platform,' which integrates all shipbuilding data into a 3D model.
The center will also push for the realization of a digital shipyard that pre-verifies production processes and equipment operations in a virtual environment. Through this, the plan is to reduce trial and error that may occur on the actual site and transition the overall production operation into an intelligent system.
HD Hyundai will enhance the completeness of the platform through collaboration among its group companies. While the HD Hyundai Global R&D Center in Pangyo supports technology strategy and core technologies, the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Ulsan Shipyard and HD Hyundai Samho Yeongam Shipyard will conduct actual ship construction site demonstrations to minimize risks.
Kim Hyung-kwan, CEO of HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, emphasized that they will accelerate the realization of an intelligent shipyard, stating, "The Next-Generation Marine Platform will play a core role in increasing the productivity and competitiveness of the shipyard through pre-verification in a digital environment."
Robert Jones, Chief Revenue Officer of Siemens, also promised long-term cooperation, mentioning that the shipbuilding industry is the area where the effects of digital technology are the greatest.
Since signing the main contract for the establishment of the Next-Generation Marine Platform in July, the two companies have been building an integrated platform that connects the entire process from design to supply chain management and quality management.
