The Los Angeles Dodgers face a massive dilemma amid its 0-2 start against the Milwaukee Brewers. This one involving a bold Shohei Ohtani move that manager Dave Roberts is becoming forced to make.
Already fans believe it’s time for Ohtani to sit and heal. Which opens the door for Josue De Paula to handle designated hitter duties.
But has Roberts began to ponder on such a move?

“Yeah, I mean obviously it hasn’t been good,” Roberts began in his postgame presser. “He doesn’t feel great.”
Roberts proceeded on what he plans to do next involving Ohtani.
“I think for me, it’s having a conversation with him tomorrow, kind of try to figure out what’s best for him, what’s best for us,” Roberts said “He certainly has earned that conversation and deserves it. I’ll have (that conversation) with him tomorrow.”
Ohtani rose as an immediate pillar of this Dodgers run. Los Angeles claimed two World Series titles since his arrival. But he hasn’t played the 2026 season at full health.
Meanwhile, Dodgers insider for The Athletic Katie Woo and MLB insider Ken Rosenthal revealed this telling detail.
“Per a team source, if the Dodgers elect to sit Ohtani, who has dealt with injury concerns this season, rookie Josue De Paula would be the top candidate to take his place as designated hitter in the starting lineup,” both wrote.
So De Paula already looks like he’s ready to receive the call to come up. This decision must be made before LA returns to Chavez Ravine on Wednesday. Regardless, this Roberts move could be what ultimately decides the series.
