GUA MUSANG: Pas remains confident of winning the upcoming Melaka election despite the Registrar of Societies' (RoS) decision to revoke Perikatan Nasional's registration.
Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the decision had not dampened the determination of PN's component parties to win the state election.
"Judging by the current 'mood', there is widespread anger over PN's deregistration because people believed the move may be politically motivated.
"Firstly, why was this done just before the Melaka election? Secondly, the court hearing is scheduled for tomorrow. Why not wait another two days until the court makes its decision on Oct 22?
"RoS should not have exercised its powers to suddenly revoke the registration. This is a serious matter because PN governs states and has assets, offices and staff.
"What happens to all these when we suddenly receive a deregistration notice? What about the rights of the people who voted for PN?" he said at the Ceramah Jelajah Himpunan dan Munajat Penyatuan Ummah (Himpak), in Pasir Tumboh last night.
Also present was Wawasan party coordinator Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali.
Tuan Ibrahim said a meeting would be held soon to decide when the party's candidates would be announced.
"The announcement will be made two or three days before nomination day.
"The candidate list has already been approved at the central level. We have yet to finalise which candidates will contest in which constituencies," he said.
Pas had earlier expressed disappointment over RoS' decision to revoke PN's registration just two days before the Kuala Lumpur High Court was scheduled to hear the coalition's application for judicial review challenging the move.
Meanwhile, PN election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the coalition could use the Pas logo in the Melaka election following its deregistration.
He said using the logo would not be a problem as it was already familiar to voters.
The Election Commission has set Oct 31 for nomination, Nov 10 for early voting and Nov 14 for polling.
