Police in Kagadi District have confirmed the arrest of two men suspected of being behind a series of livestock thefts in Paacwa and neighbouring areas of Mabaale and Kiryanga sub-counties.
Residents of Kyakabanda Village in Paacwa Sub-county have also raised concerns over increasing cases of theft involving livestock, coffee and food crops.
The concerns were raised by Kyakabanda LC1 Chairperson Charles Agumikiriza following the arrest of two men suspected of terrorising residents through theft.
The suspects have been identified as Evalisto Baryesiima, 18, and Edward Wamaani, 26, both residents of Kyakabanda Village.
Albertine South Police spokesperson Julius Hakiza said the suspects were arrested following a tip-off from members of the local community.
Hakiza urged the public to continue cooperating with police by providing information that could help identify suspects and address cases of theft.
He also cautioned residents to remain vigilant and secure their livestock, particularly as the Christmas and New Year festive season approaches, noting that theft cases can become a concern during this period.
“We know it’s close to Christmas. We need to be more careful and take care of our animals at home,” Hakiza said.
Police have urged residents to remain alert and report suspicious activities as efforts to address theft in the area continue.
