The Jacksonville Jaguars have a chance to bury their biggest threat to repeating as AFC South champions on Sunday at Wembley Stadium in London.
The Houston Texans were a popular pick to not only overtake Jacksonville in the division, but also to make it to the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history.
However, the Texans have fallen well short of expectations this season, stumbling to a 1-4 record through five games. Meanwhile, the Jaguars have looked like one of the NFL's best teams, racing out to a 4-1 start and already have a two-game lead in the division over the 2-3 Indianapolis Colts.
With a win on Sunday, Jacksonville will deliver a likely death blow to the Texans' chances of winning the AFC South. The Jaguars would open up a four-game lead over Houston after only six games, a hole the Texans would need a miracle to dig out of.
However, the Jaguars will have to beat the Texans with several key players injured and long shots to suit up in Week 6.
Luckily for Jacksonville, the Texans have their own injury problems and will also likely be shorthanded for Sunday's showdown.
Jaguars Injury Report
The Jaguars will already be without starting left tackle Anton Harrison, who was placed on IR on Tuesday as he awaits arthroscopic knee surgery, which will reveal the extent of his injury after being carted off in last week’s dramatic win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Harrison will have to miss at least four games, but may be out for the rest of the regular season. His timeline will be determined after the surgery.
Long snapper Ross Matiscik didn’t practice Wednesday, as expected. Matiscik left Week 5 with a shoulder injury. Though he is not being placed on IR, the Pro Bowler is expected to miss time, and the Jaguars have signed Jacob Bobenmoyer to the practice squad and will elevate him on a game-by-game basis until Matiscik returns.
Also not practicing was CB Montaric Brown, who exited the Eagles’ game after aggravating his hamstring injury.
Several Jaguars were able to get in a limited practice on Wednesday. Safety Eric Murray, who missed Week 5 with a concussion, is still working his way back. CBs Jarrian Jones (elbow), Jourdan Lewis (hamstring), and Jaylon Jones (hamstring) were all able to get some work in.
As were TE Nate Boerkircher (back), RT Cole Van Lanen (knee), and LG Emmanuel Pregnon (toe).
Texans Injury Report
The Texans are dealing with injuries to several important players as well.
Safety Jalen Pitre didn’t practice and is likely to miss time, a huge blow to Houston’s secondary.
Also not practicing on Wednesday were starting RB David Montgomery (groin), T Trent Brown (knee), and LB Azeez Al-Shaair (groin), who will always be Public Enemy No. 1 in Jacksonville for his brutal, dirty hit on QB Trevor Lawrence in December 2024.
Four of Houston’s top players had limited practices due to being rested. They are EDGE Will Anderson Jr., WR Nico Collins, TE Dalton Schultz, and DE Logan Hall.
The other Texans who only had limited practices were DE Jadeveon Clowney (knee), CB Ja’Marcus Ingram, and LB Henry To’oTo’o (shoulder).
WR Tank Dell (knee) and LB Wade Woodaz (thumb) were both able to practice in full.
With all the injuries to key players on both teams, the injury reports on Thursday and Friday will be very important and give a better indication of who will be able to play and who won’t.
