Former Houston Texans star J.J. Watt will become CBS Sports' lead NFL game analyst, replacing former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.
CBS Sports announced Thursday, Oct. 22, that Watt signed a multiyear agreement. He will work alongside play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz and sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson. The crew is scheduled to call the network's top NFL games, including Super Bowl LXII in Atlanta in 2028.
Watt began calling games with Nantz and Wolfson at the start of the 2026 season. CBS named him lead analyst after the network and Romo parted ways earlier this month.
"I am incredibly honored and grateful to have the opportunity to represent CBS Sports and all of the fantastic people who make this place so special," Watt said in a statement.
"I love this job and can't wait to see ya Sunday with Jim and Tracy and many more Sundays to come!"

Watt joined CBS Sports in 2023 as a studio analyst on "The NFL Today" after retiring from professional football. He moved to the broadcast booth during the 2025 NFL season, calling games with Ian Eagle and Evan Washburn.
When CBS announced his temporary promotion in August, Watt acknowledged the unusual circumstances.
"Haven't said much because it's not the circumstances you'd hope it would happen under, but I'm incredibly excited about this opportunity," Watt wrote on social media.
David Berson, chairman of Global Sports Group at Skydance, praised Watt's growth as a broadcaster, describing him as insightful, entertaining and meticulous in his preparation.
Before joining CBS, Watt spent 10 seasons with the Texans, who selected him 11th overall in the 2011 NFL Draft. He won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award three times, earned five first-team All-Pro selections and made five Pro Bowls during his 12-year career, which ended with the Arizona Cardinals in 2022.
Watt finished with 114.5 career sacks and was inducted into the Texans' Ring of Honor in 2023.
