The Washington Capitals are off to a good start in 2026-27. Washington has had some stumbles early on, without a doubt. But the team’s core free agent signings, such as Alex Tuch, are making an impact in this first month of the season.
Tuch made his presence felt for the Capitals on Wednesday. He scored two goals and added an assist for a three-point night. He helped Washington defeat the Montreal Canadiens on home ice with this performance. After the game, head coach Spencer Carbery had high praise for his new veteran forward.
“Not just the production, the overall package of Alex Tuch is going to be a welcomed addition for a lot of years to come and he’s off to a great start,” Carbery said, via NHL.com.

Fellow Capitals newcomer Jordan Kyrou also had a big night. He scored a goal and added an assist of his own in the win. The new faces are starting to make their contributions known, even if it isn’t in the prettiest of ways.
“It wasn’t always pretty, we just rebounded really well in certain situations,” Tuch said of the win on Wednesday. “We tried to get momentum back no matter what was going on. No one was gripping their stick too tight, no one was trying to do too much out there. I just thought we kept it simple and it’s a snowball effect.”
Tuch now has five goals and six points through seven games this season. He is tied with young forward Ryan Leonard for the team lead in points. So far, he is showing why the Capitals felt comfortable giving him an eight-year contract worth $84 million over the summer.
Washington is in action again on Saturday afternoon when they take on the New Jersey Devils.
