While I rarely approve of actions taken by Danielle Smith’s government, and agree with much of what Keith Green says, I take issue with his characterization of the disastrous proliferation of eight- and 10-plexes in the middle of mature neighbourhood blocks as “Edmonton’s highly successful zoning framework.”
Increasing density is inevitable and desirable but council’s blanket zoning approach is ruining neighbourhoods. Council is not listening to constituents so neighbourhoods are relieved the province at least has done something.

We have yet to see what sociological disruption eight-plex rentals next door to $2-million homes will produce. We know that no one wants to live next to mid-block eight-plex rentals. Traffic backups on major arterial streets and avenues because of choked narrow neighbourhood streets loom as council’s framework does not require parking for this density. The illusion that eight-plex rentals are low-cost is proving to be just that: illusion.
Council needs to develop densification policies that include input from neighbourhoods and intelligent, planned increases must be the rule.

Separatists, Stop using our flag for your nefarious and deceitful purposes. Albertans as a whole do not want separation. Design your own flag and when you do, remember to include the notions of non-inclusivity, self-serving, entitled, and contributing nothing to the common good of the province. Your use of Alberta’s flag is disgraceful.
