Final Fantasy: Resonance is the first HD-2D entry in Square Enix's long-running role-playing franchise, offering players a way to experience something both classic and new at the same time. With a story and gameplay mechanics that find a unique way to blend classic characters with an all-new cast, this one's no doubt a great spot for new players and returning fans to jump in.
If you're wondering how long it takes to see this HD-2D journey through, though, we've got you covered. Here's how long it takes to beat Final Fantasy: Resonance.
How long it takes to beat Final Fantasy: Resonance
An average playthrough of Final Fantasy: Resonance takes around 30-40 hours. This includes seeing the core story through while doing a handful of side quests, plus some optional objectives like finding Visions, espers, and more.
This makes it a fairly hefty JRPG experience right out of the gate, but completionists will find that their playtime can be extended by nearly double if going for 100%. Especially for those seeking to obtain every trophy or achievement, Final Fantasy: Resonance can easily take 70+ hours to see and do everything it has to offer.
Of course, those who want to mainline the story, or who opt to play on Casual difficulty, may reach the game's conclusion more quickly. Meanwhile, choosing the hardest difficulty may add enough challenge that you could see your playtime exceed 80 hours.
How you decide to experience Final Fantasy: Resonance is entirely up to you, so play it on the difficulty that feels right. And there's no need to feel obligated to see and do everything, as you can mostly just engage with the parts that you enjoy along the way to seeing how the game's epic story concludes.
Final Fantasy: Resonance chapter list
Final Fantasy: Resonance is split into eight chapters, which play out linearly. While you can stop and smell the roses (as in, do plenty of side quests and more), these chapters represent the arcs of the game's main story.
- Tailing the Truth
- Eternal Blue
- Wardens of the Aquapolis
- Banner Oath
- Scars of Time
- Tranquility
- Reckoning
- Beyond Hope
In addition to the main chapters of Final Fantasy: Resonance, you can find a bevy of side quests to complete throughout the game's sprawling world. They're usually worth doing, too, as they frequently grant above-average gear for your characters, which will help you tackle upcoming battles more easily.
Final Fantasy: Resonance is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
