Najran – 6 Saudis were injured when a projectile fired by the Houthis landed in a residential area in Najran, southern Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Civil Defense reported on Sunday.
The Civil Defense stated on its “X” platform: “On Sunday, the Civil Defense in Najran responded to a hostile projectile launched by the terrorist Houthi militia at a residential area, resulting in injuries to six citizens and material damage to three houses and three vehicles.”
Earlier on Sunday, Saudi Arabia announced that a reconnaissance helicopter belonging to the Ministry of the National Guard crashed in the Najran region, killing its two-man crew.
The Saudi Press Agency quoted Major General Turki al-Maliki, spokesman for the Saudi Ministry of Defense, as saying that the AH-6 helicopter crashed inside Saudi territory due to a technical malfunction.
Al-Maliki also denied that the aircraft had been shot down by the Houthi group, writing on the X platform in response to the group's spokesman Yahya Saree's claim of downing it: "You claim to have shot it down... It will soon enter the field... Remember its shape, don't forget."
The Iranian-backed Houthis have continued to target airports and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia on a daily basis for the past two weeks.
Last week, the Houthi attacks reached an unprecedented scale, including several strikes on Riyadh airport, one of which killed 13 people and injured hundreds more on Saturday.
The death toll from attacks targeting Saudi airports since the beginning of this month has reached 20.
