Alaric Jackson threw a punch on Monday night against the Buffalo Bills.

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Rams starting left tackle landed a punch of his own by winning an appeal against the NFL.

Jackson successfully appealed his two-game suspension for punching Bills linebacker Bradley Chubb following the Rams gut-wrenching 37-34 overtime loss at SoFi Stadium, getting his punishment reduced to one game.

Hearing officer Derrick Brooks, jointly appointed by the NFL and NFL Players Association, handed down the decision Wednesday, giving Jackson and the Rams a significant break.

Jackson will now miss only Sunday’s Week 6 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, with veteran David Quessenberry expected to start at left tackle in his place.

The altercation unfolded near midfield following Monday’s game as Jackson was exchanging jerseys with Bills defensive lineman Deone Walker.

Chubb approached and exchanged words with Jackson, who responded by walking toward the linebacker. After Chubb put his right hand on Jackson’s face, he delivered a right-handed punch to the right side of the linebacker’s face.

Not exactly the kind of postgame handshake the NFL encourages.

On Wednesday, Chubb acknowledged initiating the verbal confrontation but denied reports that he insulted Jackson’s mother.

“I said: ‘We’re gonna see y’all’s ass again. And when we see you again, all that chipping ain’t gonna save you,'” Chubb explained, referring to the additional blocking help Jackson received.

Chubb said Jackson questioned his comments before throwing the punch.

“Then boom,” Chubb recalled.

Asked what he learned from the incident, Chubb offered a memorable response.

“Me personally, I learned I’m either going to have my hands up or wear a helmet.”

Rams head coach Sean McVay wasn’t nearly as amused when he spoke to the media on Tuesday.

“He has to make better decisions than that,” McVay said about Jackson.

Jackson’s reduced suspension is welcome news for a Rams offensive line already facing questions about its depth.

Still, this marks Jackson’s second NFL suspension after serving a two-game ban in 2024 for violating the league’s personal conduct policy and he still could receive an additional suspension for a domestic violence arrest this offseason.
