KUALA BERANG: Police have arrested a 23-year-old woman to assist in investigations into the discovery of a baby's body in a drain at the Padang Setengge residential area here yesterday.
Hulu Terengganu police chief Superintendent Sharudin Abdul Wahab said the woman was arrested at her residence at 3.30pm for investigation under Section 318 of the Penal Code.
He said the arrest enabled police to establish the circumstances surrounding the birth and the woman's involvement in the incident.
"The post-mortem conducted by a pathologist from the Forensic Department of Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) this morning found that the baby was full-term and had died more than 24 hours before the examination at 9am.
"However, it could not be determined whether the baby was born alive or dead, nor could the cause of death be ascertained. The sex of the baby has also not been determined," he said in a statement today.
It was reported yesterday that a woman discovered the baby's body, with several limbs missing, in a drain while washing clothes behind her house in the Padang Setengge residential area.
