By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A 51 year old taxi driver of Savannah Street, Orange Walk Town, has been charged with failing to provide a specimen.
He is Jaime Gomez.
Police say officers on burglary patrol on San Antonio Road around 10:50pm on Thursday, October 15, saw a white Toyota Corolla swerving from side to side on Savannah Street.
When officers stopped the car, Gomez allegedly got out of the driver’s side staggering, leaving the engine running and headlights on. Officers say they smelled a strong odour of alcohol on his breath.
He was arrested for driving under the influence and taken to the Orange Walk Police Station, where he was asked for a urine specimen. Police say he refused three times.
He was then taken to the Northern Regional Hospital, where, in the presence of a doctor, he again refused to give a urine or blood sample.
Gomez was charged on Friday morning and granted bail to appear in the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court on Monday, October 19. His car was impounded.
