Cozy taverns hidden underwater, whimsical treehouses towering over forests, sprawling cathedrals that took hundreds of hours to make. While some games ask you to discover the worlds other people built, Enshrouded invited players to make it their own. Now the real journey is about to begin.
The folks who played Enshrouded during Early Access already know the wait has been worth it. The long-anticipated 1.0 release, scheduled for October 15, will finally take the game’s ambitious blend of survival RPG and world crafting sim to the next level. The full release promises answers to burning questions about the origins of the Shroud, a poisonous mist that blankets the land, and what led to the fall of Embervale. It also teases new enemies, biomes, and gameplay improvements.
Your task in Enshrouded is to reclaim a kingdom. Embervale has been consumed by the Shroud, a deadly fog that drains your life force and will eventually kill you. The fallen kingdom is a playground of risk and reward, daring players to risk their lives to find powerful treasures. Ancient ruins, hidden cultures, and secrets scattered across a handcrafted world sit beyond the Shroud. Surviving long enough to discover them requires using grappling hooks, gliders, and nail-biting feats of stubbornness to safely navigate the miasma before you run out of time.
Nothing’s random in Enshrouded—everything was put somewhere on purpose. It’s dangerous to try to complete your task alone. Thankfully, you don’t have to.
Team Up and Explore
Up to sixteen players on PC, eight players on PS5, can share a world at once, and not everyone has to be toiling away on the same challenge. One player can build and another can explore while a third farms for resources, each contributing to the broader goal of reclaiming Embervale. There is no role in an Enshrouded co-op session that operates outside the loop. As a result, no player has to abandon what they enjoy doing to support someone else’s preferred approach.
That extends to how the game handles its survival systems: hunting, fishing, animal husbandry, and farming all sit alongside combat as ways to obtain resources and upgrades. A player who wants to spend a session cultivating plants and taming animals rather than clearing ruins is playing the game, not working around it.
The PS5 launch that accompanies 1.0 brings a new wave of players into these shared worlds, and a post-launch roadmap means the release is as much a fresh beginning as a well-earned victory lap.
The World Is Yours
While survival games can be harsh and inhospitable, Enshrouded’s brutal world is softened by its cozy sim impulses. It’s an action-RPG for people who might accidentally spend most of their time building pirate ships in a lagoon or a safe fortress at the top of a steep cliff. The world is fully terraformable, which means players aren’t limited to placing pre-made objects on flat ground. Bases can go under waterfalls, inside mountains, and even expand into miniature cities.
Dynamic water was one of the features added during Early Access, a technical feat for a voxel-based game that opened up a new tier of what construction here can look like. Precision tools and pre-made blocks sit at opposite ends of the construction spectrum, and players can move between them as they see fit. To date, Enshrouded’s growing community has produced structures that look less like survival-game shelters and more like long-lost architectural wonders.
Recreated real-world castles, underground cities, giant toilets—the game’s adventure sharing means every player’s creation can become fresh content for someone else.
From Building to Buildcrafting
Combat runs on a skill-based system backed by an upgrade tree deep enough to ensure a diverse pool of viable builds and reward tinkering. Greatswords, magic, hybrid archetypes: The specialization options are broad, and the game doesn’t punish players for choosing an unconventional path through the talent system.
Escalating enemies test whatever build you’ve committed to, which means the combat gets harder as your character gets more capable. But players can tune the difficulty based on their preferences. This means a master base builder can experience low-pressure sessions while hardcore combat enthusiasts can ratchet up the challenge to test their abilities.
It’s exactly this type of flexibility that’s helped Enshrouded earn a 87% positive rating on Steam. More than five million users played Enshrouded during its Early Access, setting the foundation for what the game is today. Community feedback from tens of thousands of hours of players crafting, exploring, and fighting to survive has resulted in reworked combat dynamics, performance optimizations, and system overhauls.
Speaking of improvements, the game has released eight major updates over the past two years to address pain points in collaboration with the community. Perhaps the best example of this is Enshrouded’s final boss, the Fell Dragon Youngling. While it proved to be a challenge for players, developers prioritized fine-tuning the climactic encounter to make it truly memorable. In the upcoming release, gliding, fishing, and pets are also getting fan-requested enhancements.
Enshrouded 1.0 is more than just content complete. Just like the players who have been there from day-one, it’s battle-tested. Improved graphics and performance are part of the 1.0 package, alongside the combat and gameplay revisions that came out of that feedback cycle. For anyone who followed Enshrouded through Early Access and held off for the finished version, mark your calendars and get ready for the real adventure.
Enshrouded 1.0 launches on October 15 on PC, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 5 Pro, with the Xbox Series X|S version planned for spring 2027.
