Billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola hosted Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, and BUA Group Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu to a private dinner on Sunday in honour of Lagos State Deputy Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.
The gathering at Otedola’s residence formed part of early outreach by the candidate to key figures in the organised private sector ahead of the 2027 election.
Rabiu announced the meeting in a Facebook post on Sunday night, describing it as a memorable evening.
“A memorable evening at the residence of my dear friend and brother, Femi Otedola, who graciously hosted Alhaji Aliko Dangote and me to a special dinner in honour of Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Deputy Governor of Lagos State and gubernatorial aspirant.
“An evening of warm friendship and meaningful conversations. I extend my warmest wishes to Dr. Hamzat as he pursues his ambition to lead Lagos State, wishing him every success in the journey ahead,” he said.
Otedola confirmed the dinner on Monday morning, describing Hamzat as a man of integrity with whom he shared a bunk bed at boarding school 49 years ago.
In his X post, Otedola said, “Yesterday, I hosted dinner in honour of @DrObafemiHamzat, the incoming Governor of Lagos State. A man of the highest integrity, with whom I shared a bunk bed at boarding school 49 years ago.
“My experience of his character over the years has been defined by his honesty, sincerity, fairness and strong moral principles.”
Hamzat, Deputy Governor since 2019, emerged as the consensus candidate of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) and later won the Lagos APC governorship primary with 657,917 votes.
On 11 October, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) listed the 62-year-old among 17 final candidates cleared for the February 2027 Lagos governorship election.
The dinner brought together three of Nigeria’s most influential businessmen, whose interests span manufacturing, energy, banking and infrastructure.
The engagement signals early support from sections of the business community for Hamzat’s agenda, which he has branded “My Lagos Dream” and which prioritises job creation, infrastructure expansion, education, healthcare and security.
