BUSAN — "Lucky Geumsun," a feature film backed by production support from the Busan Film Commission, is searching for local actors ahead of filming. The move links film production with opportunities for local talent, aiming to broaden the production base of Busan's film industry.
Production company 102Cinema will hold an open audition for "Lucky Geumsun" on the 22nd at the Busan Visual Industry Center, the Busan Film Commission said on the 16th. Five roles are open, including the male lead and supporting and minor parts for both men and women, and the call is limited to actors who live and work in Busan. Applicants must email a profile, a recent upper-body photo and a video of unscripted acting by 11 a.m. on the 21st.
"Lucky Geumsun" is a thriller-drama about Geumsun, a woman in her 70s who collapses from angina and tries to sell a plot of land with Seong-il, the owner of a real estate office, to raise money for her stroke-stricken husband's nursing home fees and for the cost of placing her dogs at a shelter for abandoned animals. The film was selected for the Busan Film Commission's production support program and received 250 million won ($175,000) in production funding. Shooting is scheduled for late November.
The film is directed by Jung Ki-hyuk, whose feature debut "Star of Ulsan" won the Directors Guild of Korea Megabox Award at the 27th Busan International Film Festival. His second feature, "97 Hyeja, Drifting," was invited to film festivals in Korea and abroad before opening in theaters nationwide in September.
Details on the audition are available in the notice section of the Busan Film Commission website.
