Bardhaman-Durgapur MP Kirti Azad, a Mamata Banerjee loyalist, on Tuesday alleged that goons affiliated with the RSS labour arm BMS vandalised his Burdwan city office, a charge the Sangh Parivar affiliate has refuted.
Taking to social media, the Trinamool Congress MP stating that his office in the Curzon Gate area had been ransacked and that official letterheads, stamps, telephone registers, and vital documents had been stolen or compromised.
Allegedly, after the vandalism, his office got a new lock. His nameplate was found in a dustbin nearby.
Azad claimed the vandalism was executed by BMS district president Madhav Das.
"My office was ransacked by the district president of @BMSkendra Bharatiya Majdoor Sangh AN EXTENDED ARM OF THE GOONS OFF @RSSorg. HIS NAME IS #MADHAVDAS," wrote Azad on X.
"Locals tell me that these goons went inside, they took my stamp, letterheads, telephone register and other important government documents. I suspect they may have broken my computer and printer. They put their own lock. #FIR online has been lodged. If the police sincerely does the investigation and check the CCTV camera hardware, if not destroyed by the goons, they can be easily caught," he wrote. "They’re trying to threaten me from working for the people who have elected me. I strongly stand by the side of my leader, Mamata Didi."
Addressing chief minister Suvendu Adhikari, Azad wrote: "I had mentioned in my tweets that there is no rule of law in #WB."
"Goons of @BJP4Bengal have ransacked my office and taken my official documents, Stamp and letterheads. Dear @cmowbgov please take note," he added. "This is not the way to fight political battles. I challenge you for a debate live face to face."
Local Mamata loyalists rallied behind the MP, with Trinamool leader Debu Tudu condemning the incident.
"A group of criminals from the BJP vandalised the MP's office," Tudu alleged, expressing dismay over political hostility during the ongoing festive season and announcing plans for a formal police complaint.
Dismissing the allegations, BJP district secretary Debajyoti Sinha Roy claimed the party had no connection to the incident and did not condone the vandalism of political offices.
Sinha Roy added that if any BJP party worker was found guilty, appropriate internal action would be taken, and that the truth would emerge through local CCTV footage.
The local administration has initiated a preliminary inquiry into the incident amid the ongoing Puja celebrations.
