Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has approved the appointment of Professor Ibrahim Danjuma as Rector of Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola.
The appointment followed a recommendation by the institution’s Governing Council at its 35th emergency meeting, the state government said.
Danjuma, a former staff member of Modibbo Adama University, Yola, was, until his appointment, the Director-General of the Adamawa State Debt Management Agency.
Fintiri’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, disclosed this in a statement released on Wednesday morning.
According to Wonosikou, Danjuma’s appointment followed the expiration of the tenure of the former rector, Professor Mohammed Dahiru Toungos.
“While congratulating the new rector, Governor Fintiri charged him to uphold academic excellence, discipline and integrity in the discharge of his duties,” Wonosikou stated.
He added that the governor urged the new rector to bring his wealth of experience to bear on the development of the institution, particularly in an era of rapid technological advancement and innovation.
Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola, commonly known by its initials as SPY, was established in 1991 through the merger of the College of Preliminary Studies, Yola, and the Staff Development Institute, Numan.
The institution has its main campus in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area, another campus in Jambutu, and a major campus in Numan, Numan Local Government Area.
Owned and operated by the Adamawa State Government, the polytechnic is accredited by the National Board for Technical Education to offer diploma and higher national diploma programmes.
It also runs some degree programmes in affiliation with the University of Maiduguri.
