Two WorldTour teams failed to submit all essential documents for their 2027 registration by the UCI’s October 15 deadline.
Jayco-AlUla and Picnic-PostNL both missed the first round requirements to stay in the top WorldTour league for 2027 for both their men’s and women’s teams, the UCI confirmed Monday.
Velo reached out to officials from both teams for comment.
Missing the first round of registration means their applications to remain in the top cycling league are incomplete and potentially could allow riders to terminate their contracts early.
The teams still have time to file the paperwork and bank guarantees before the registration process ends. The UCI will publish its final list of registered teams December 8.
For riders, however, the missed deadline could have immediate consequences.
“In accordance with the UCI Regulations and subject to other applicable provisions, riders from these teams may terminate their contracts early, but this right will lapse if their team is subsequently registered,” the UCI stated Monday.
There have not been any official comments from either team.
Will the WorldTour be smaller?
Picnic-PostNL has been under the microscope recently for reports of a toxic team environment on its men’s squad, something several key riders and staffers have denied.
Sources told Velo earlier this month that Picnic-PostNL might not race in the WorldTour for 2027 and prefer to drop to the second-tier ProTour level. There was no official confirmation of the team’s plans Monday.
Sources also told Velo if the allotted 18 WorldTour licenses on the men’s side are not filled, the vacant license will not be replaced by a second-tier team.
The UCI did not indicate Monday what would happen if one or two spots remain open in the 18-team men’s WorldTour.
Jayco-AlUla, meanwhile, seems to be on more solid footing. Last month, Daniel Benson reported that a new major co-sponsor will be joining the team to guarantee its future for the next five seasons.
Late-hour changes can sometimes complicate paperwork ahead of the UCI’s deadlines, but there was no official confirmation yet of a new partner for the long-running Australian team.
Both teams did not meet the UCI requirements for their men’s and women’s squads.
There were no other major surprises among Monday’s published list.
Human Powered Health remains in the Women’s WorldTour, while Modern Adventure Pro Cycling is also back in the men’s ProTour after its successful inaugural season in 2026.
The list also confirmed that Soudal Quick-Step will race as Soudal-Safety Jogger in 2027. The long-running Belgian team confirmed Monday it is splitting with Specialized for next season.
