The University of Ghana (UG) has told undergraduate students whose Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) falls below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 Academic Year that they are not in good academic standing and must withdraw from their programmes of study.
The directive was contained in a notice from the university’s Academic Affairs Directorate, posted on UG’s official Facebook page.
The notice drew the attention of all undergraduate students to Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which governs academic progression.
According to the notice, a student must obtain a CGPA of 1.00 or better, and satisfy School or Departmental requirements, to progress to the next level. It states plainly that there is no probation.
The notice said the withdrawal requirement applies to students whose CGPAs fall below 1.00 upon receipt of all grades for their registered courses at the end of the 2025/2026 Academic Year.
How to withdraw
Affected students are to check their CGPAs on the MIS Web. They should then log in to the STS Portal (sts.ug.edu.gh/services) with their Student ID and PIN and select “Withdrawal Request” to start the process.
The notice added that for certain programmes, the relevant School or Department will initiate the withdrawal on behalf of affected students. It did not say which programmes this covers.
Where to get help
Students seeking clarification have been advised to contact their College Academic Office. The notice said the Careers and Counselling Directorate is also available to all students for support and guidance.
