Actor Robert Pattinson said the team behind The Batman Part II is still “figuring things out” following reports of a production pause.
During the promotions of Primetime, Pattinson told PTI, “We’re pausing for a little bit, and then we’re going to figure it all out.”
Pattinson is set to reprise his role as the Caped Crusader in Reeves’ follow-up to the 2022 film The Batman, which presented the superhero story as a crime noir rather than a conventional action-driven comic-book film.
Warner Bros. and DC Studios have temporarily halted production on The Batman Part II as director Matt Reeves has taken a break to attend to a family matter.
In a statement, the studio said, “Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter.”
“Matt has the full support of DC Studios, and we look forward to continuing the journey soon,” the statement further stated.
The Batman Part II is currently in production and is scheduled to hit theatres on February 18, 2028.
In The Batman, Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne is in his second year of operating as a vigilante in Gotham City when he begins investigating a series of murders committed by the Riddler, a sadistic serial killer targeting the city’s corrupt elite.
Reeves’ interpretation also portrayed Bruce as a recluse who largely shuns his public persona, neglects his responsibilities as a billionaire and remains withdrawn from society. He struggles to maintain a distinction between his life as Bruce Wayne and his existence as Batman, with his vigilante identity consuming much of his life.
Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan are also set to play key roles in the sequel. Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch round out the cast.
The Batman, a reboot of the DC franchise, was a box-office success, grossing more than USD 770 million worldwide. Released on March 4, 2022, the film also starred Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell.
The film was followed by HBO series The Penguin, starring Farrell as Oswald “Oz” Cobb. The series explored Gotham City’s criminal underworld in the aftermath of the events of The Batman.
