A murder case accused who had repeatedly jumped bail and went absconding was arrested in Hamidi, Punjab, by a special team of the Korattur police.
The accused, Mohammed Irfan, a native of Bihar, was arrested in connection with the 2017 murder of Samidas in Korattur. Irfan and a woman, Lakshmi, allegedly murdered Samidas over a relationship dispute.
Irfan was arrested in 2017 and released on bail in 2018. He subsequently failed to appear before the court and went absconding. The police arrested him in Delhi in 2023 on a court warrant. After being released on bail in 2024, he again stopped appearing before the court from June, following which a fresh warrant was issued.
A special team led by Korattur Inspector J. George Miller Ponraj launched a search for him in Bihar, Delhi, and Punjab. The team traced and arrested Irfan in Hamidi in Punjab. After producing him before a local court and obtaining a transit warrant, the police brought him to Chennai and produced him before a court. He was subsequently remanded in Puzhal Central Prison.
