Ethereum ended the third quarter with a record 43.8 million ETH staked, while yields declined across major proof-of-stake networks, according to Bitwise. At the same time, tokenized stocks and traditional-market trading surged on Solana, Hyperliquid and Robinhood Chain, showing where the next wave of crypto activity is emerging.
Key Takeaways
- Ethereum ended Q3 with a record 43.8M ETH staked, while staking yield fell to 2.63%.
- Solana, Hyperliquid, and Robinhood Chain saw strong growth in tokenized-stock and TradFi activity.
- Crypto’s next growth engine may be cheaper blockchains powering larger traditional financial markets.
Crypto Yields Fall as Tokenized Markets Move Into High Gear
More capital is securing major blockchains than ever before. The reward for doing so, however, keeps shrinking.
That is one of the clearest signals from Bitwise’s latest staking report, which shows proof-of-stake networks entering a new phase: higher stake, lower costs and falling yields, while financial activity expands beyond conventional crypto markets.
Ethereum finished Q3 with a record 43.8 million ETH staked, 35.9% of its supply. Net inflows reached 1.99 million ETH, marking a sixth consecutive quarter of growth. Yet annualized staking yield fell from 2.81% to 2.63% as rewards were spread across more capital.

Ethereum Secures More Capital With Fewer Validators
Ethereum’s validator count fell from nearly 1.1 million to about 881,000, but that does not signal declining security. The Pectra upgrade allows operators to consolidate validators while maintaining the ETH behind them, reducing infrastructure overhead.
At the same time, Ethereum became cheaper to use. The average cost across four common transaction types fell 67% year over year to $0.45, helped by increased block capacity. For users, that means cheaper crypto transactions. For stakers, lower fees also mean less execution revenue.
Solana showed a similar trade-off. Active stake reached a record 440.5 million SOL, 69% of its supply, while gross staking yield dropped from 6.38% to 5.99%. Its validator count declined from 696 to 659 amid continued cost pressure.
Tokenized Stocks Are Becoming Serious Business
The more striking growth came outside staking.
Solana’s tokenized-equity trading volume climbed 45% to $6.93 billion in Q3. The network also processed a record 14.2 billion non-vote transactions.
Hyperliquid saw $261.5 billion in non-crypto perpetual volume, accounting for 36.5% of total perpetual trading. Equity-linked markets were among its largest products.
Robinhood Chain, meanwhile, generated $51.1 million in fees during its first quarter. Average daily stock token trading exploded from $17 million in July to $377.1 million in September, a more than 22-fold increase.
Crypto Growth Is Getting Cheaper by Design
The numbers point to a broader shift.
Networks are increasing capacity and reducing transaction costs while staking economics become less lucrative. At the same time, stocks, commodities, and other traditional assets are generating more onchain activity.
That changes the staking story. The headline is no longer simply how much yield investors can earn. It is whether cheaper, better-secured blockchains can become infrastructure for markets far larger than crypto itself.
