After telling us the origins of Queen Charlotte with Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Netflix is ready to go back in time with a new story set in the universe of Bridgerton. This time, it’s about Violet Bridgerton, the family matriarch played by Ruth Gemmell in the main series, including her love story with Edmund.
The project, officially announced by Netflix and Shondaland, will be an as-yet-untitled limited series and will follow in the path of Queen Charlotte: a prequel capable of delving into the past of a character the audience has come to love, showing how she became the person we know. Shonda Rhimes and Nicholas Nardini will return as writers and executive producers, while Tom Verica will direct. For the moment, however, neither the cast nor a release date has been announced, but some rumors are beginning to circulate…
Will young Lady Danbury return in the Bridgerton spin-off?
While we wait to find out who will play Violet and Edmund, there is already a clue that has caught fans’ attention. Arsema Thomas, the actress who played young Lady Danbury in Queen Charlotte, shared the post announcing the new series in her Stories, accompanying it with a phrase that sounds like a promise: “Ready to get back in the saddle”. A choice of words that seems to hint at a possible return to the set, although, at least for now, there is no official confirmation of her participation.
Of course, a social media clue is not the same as a casting announcement. And yet it wouldn’t be all that surprising: Queen Charlotte had already explored the relationship between the young Violet Ledger and Agatha Danbury, laying the groundwork for a story that could continue in the new prequel. If the series follows Violet during the period when she meets Edmund and approaches adulthood, bringing back a young Lady Danbury would make sense from a narrative point of view as well.

The real question at this point is how much of the cast of Queen Charlotte Netflix will decide to bring back. Will we also see India Amarteifio and Corey Mylchreest again as young Queen Charlotte and King George? And what will become of Brimsley and Reynolds, whose love story won over the audience?
The possibility of seeing them again is tempting, but the timeline also needs to be considered. The new series should focus on the story between Violet and Edmund, so it is not certain that all the characters from Queen Charlotte can have a natural role in the story. Any appearances, flashbacks, or connections between the two stories remain, for now, only theories.
Who will play young Violet and the future Viscount Edmund?
If there’s one thing the Bridgerton fandom knows how to do very well, it’s imagining the perfect casting even before Netflix starts revealing the official names. And this time, too, the requests were quick to arrive.
Among the actresses fans would like to see as young Violet is Emily Bader, already the star of My Lady Jane, the Prime Video series canceled after just one season, and the actress who plays Poppy in the Netflix film People We Meet on Vacation, based on the novel by Emily Henry. Her name has been circulating consistently in online discussions since the spin-off was announced, along with Jonah Hauer-King’s for the role of Edmund.
Hauer-King is also known for playing Prince Eric in Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid and, for many fans, he would have the right charm to become the new face of Viscount Bridgerton. For now, however, these are solely suggestions from the public: Netflix has not announced any cast members, and we do not even know whether it has officially begun casting yet.
Then there is another possibility to consider: opting for lesser-known actors, as happened with several faces that Bridgerton helped make internationally recognizable. Emily Bader and Jonah Hauer-King are already performers with a certain visibility and following, so they might be hard to get. The choice will depend on the series’ creative direction and on how much Netflix wants to listen to the fans’ requests.
When will the Bridgerton spin-off about Violet be released?
For the moment, Netflix has not announced a release date or an official production schedule. The only certainty is that the series is in development, while the fifth season of Bridgerton, dedicated to Francesca and Michaela, is already in production in London and will arrive in 2027.
Considering that the project has only just been announced and that the cast and production timing still need to be defined, a 2028 debut seems plausible, but at the moment there is no official window. Naturally, much will depend on the start of filming and the schedule of a production that will once again have to recreate the settings, costumes, and atmosphere of Regency-era London.
In the meantime, curiosity is already sky-high, because if Queen Charlotte has taught us anything, it’s that behind the characters we think we know, there can be stories capable of surprising us again and again, and making us shed countless tears.
