Ohtech Carrier, an affiliate of Ohtech Group, said on Oct. 14 that it has been selected as the preferred bidder to supply cooling equipment for a 200-megawatt artificial intelligence data center in Gumi.
The company was named preferred bidder on Oct. 8 for the cooling equipment supply contract for the Gumi AI Cluster Data Center Development Project, to be built in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province. The award follows an earlier 48-megawatt hyperscale data center project and gives the company a second foothold in the AI data center cooling market.
The project calls for a hyperscale data center with 200 megawatts of IT capacity, designed to handle AI computing demand based on Rubin, Nvidia's next-generation AI computing platform. Ohtech Carrier plans to supply 160 units of AquaForce 30XFZ, a high-efficiency air-cooled inverter screw chiller from global partner Carrier. If a final contract is signed, it would be the largest chiller order the company has handled in a single project.
The AquaForce 30XFZ is a high-efficiency air-cooled inverter chiller that uses hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) refrigerant, a lower-emission alternative. Free-cooling operation, which reduces the energy needed for cooling when outside temperatures are low, can cut energy use by up to 50%. The chiller can also return to full load within 120 seconds of a power outage. Carrier's intelligent control system, SmartView, allows operators to monitor and control the cooling equipment in real time, supporting stable operation of an AI data center that runs around the clock.
"This Gumi AI data center project is significant because it involves the largest chiller supply we have pursued in a single project," Ohtech Carrier Chairman Kang Sung-hee said. "Drawing on Carrier's advanced cooling technology and Ohtech Carrier's project execution capabilities, we will provide integrated solutions ranging from high-efficiency chillers to liquid cooling and accelerate our push into the domestic AI data center market."
