THE SOCIAL Security System (SSS) served notices to 419 delinquent employers with contribution delinquencies amounting to more than P169 million under its Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) program, it said on Monday.
“Every employer is required by law to deduct and remit social security contributions on behalf of their employees. Failure to do so not only violates the law but also deprives workers of their rightful benefits,” SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Robert Joseph M. de Claro said in a press release.
As part of the program, the state pension fund on Monday ran an operation in Pasay, calling on five business employers to settle their contribution delinquencies totaling P3.19 million.
The five erring employers incurred P1.14 million in unpaid contributions and P2.05 million in penalties, all cited for non-remittance of monthly contributions under Republic Act (RA) No. 11199, or the Social Security Act of 2018.
Among the violators, a restaurant establishment recorded the highest contribution of P2.25 million, P739,000 of which are unpaid workers’ contributions while P1.51 million are in penalties.
Citing SSS records, it said the establishment failed to remit the social security contributions of its 35 employees.
Under RA 11199, delinquent employers are given 15 days from the day of the receipt of notice to settle their contributions, or they will be penalized with a fine of P5,000 to P20,000 and face imprisonment ranging from six years and one day to 12 years. — Aaron Michael C. Sy
