(ANSA) - ROME, 19 OTT - Gianluca Vinci, the chairman of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into the death of former Monte dei Paschi di Siena (MPS) Bank Communications Chief David Rossi, said Monday that two people suspected of involvement in his case have been identified as a result of the commission's work.
The 51-year-old's lifeless body was found 13 years ago - on 6 March 2013 - under a window of his office in the courtyard of Palazzo Salimbeni, the MPS HQ in the Tuscan city.
The death was initially ruled a suicide, but suspicions remained that Rossi was the victim of foul play and parliament opened a commission of inquiry into the case in 2021.
Vinci said the two suspects have been identified thanks to information obtained from two prison inmates.
He named them as Giuseppe Mussari, "the instigator of an act of intimidation that was not initially intended to result in David Rossi's death", and Gabriele Ceccherelli, "the individual who allegedly organized and selected the persons—who have not yet been identified—to be involved in the execution phase, while he himself remained outside Palazzo Salimbeni.
"We will send all the documentation to the prosecutor's office," Vinci told a press conference.
"The judicial authorities will know how to proceed." Ceccherelli, a former Calcio Storico Fiorentino player, said he was innocent.
"I know nothing about this; I don't know anyone involved in this case," he said.
"The only time I've ever been to Siena was to buy a pair of shoes; I have nothing to do with this case".
A series of expert reports commissioned by the parliamentary commission have backed the assertion that Rossi was killed.
A new report presented last month said Rossi was attacked by at least two "large" people and was conscious before falling out of the window.
It said he most likely tried to defend himself and, once he fell out of the window, he attempted to cling to the ledge and was held by his attackers—perhaps in an attempt to intimidate him—but then their grip slipped and Rossi fell.
The report was presented by the Carabinieri police's RIS unit, which conducted simulations at a gym in Rome with a police officer acting out how the experts think Rossi responded to the attack.
A previous expert report on facial injuries sustained by Rossi said they were not caused by his fall from his office window but instead by pressure on his face and head exerted by third parties against the safety bar or the wooden frame of the window.
Another report on injuries to his wrist found that Rossi had been held by third parties outside the window before the fall.
MPS is Italy's third-biggest bank, and the oldest in the world.
