The under-fire Cowboys defense actually got some good news on Thursday. Amid questions about whether coordinator Christian Parker will coach from the booth or the sideline (he seems to be refuting what owner Jerry Jones said earlier in the week) and heavy debate about whether the players-only meeting is a good sign or not (Mike Tomlin had a strong opinion), linebacker DeMarvion Overshown was upgraded to a limited participant in practice. That could signal a return for him in Week 6, but cornerback Cobie Durant is looking less likely; he did not practice for the second day in a row due to his hamstring injury.
Today's look at the headlines indicate that first-round rookie Malachi Lawrence could see an uptick in his playing time, but at whose expense? Given his slow start (one that he freely admits to), Von Miller may be the one who sees less action on gameday. To his credit, though, the eight-time Pro Bowler says he needs to be making more of an impact no matter how many snaps he gets. Also making news, Troy Aikman sure seems to be gearing up for an eventual departure from ESPN and booth partner Joe Buck.
In Green Bay, the Packers are prepping for the next installment of their long-standing rivalry with the Cowboys, Flying high after their beatdown of the Bears, the Packers have a healthy respect for the Cowboys' offensive capabilities. But if Sunday night's game comes down to a kick, there are understandable nerves in Green Bay; kicker Trey Smack missed a PAT and two field goals last week.
