Sikkim High Court Chief Justice A Muhamed Mustaque on Saturday inspected the National Institute of Technology campus at Ravangla to assess whether it could house the permanent campus of Sikkim National Law University, news agency Press Trust of India reported.
The inspection covered the campus infrastructure, accommodation facilities and adjoining land that could be used for the proposed university's academic, administrative and residential needs.
According to an official statement cited by PTI, Justice Mustaque sought details about the use of classrooms, faculty quarters, the conference hall and the library. He also enquired about land available for future expansion and outlined the infrastructure needed to meet the academic and residential requirements of students and faculty members.
Revenue Officer Rinzing Wangyal Bhutia briefed the delegation on the layout of the campus, which covers about 9.23 acres, and its existing infrastructure. He also identified adjoining land parcels that could potentially accommodate additional facilities for the law university.
NIT Sikkim Dean of Students' Welfare Ranjan Basak informed the delegation about the institute's functioning, student enrolment across departments, accommodation facilities, water supply and waste management systems, PTI reported.
Basak also provided details about the construction of NIT Sikkim's permanent campus at Khamdong near Singtam and the institute's phased relocation to the new premises.
Justice Mustaque toured various infrastructure blocks and inspected multipurpose halls, water tanks, the playground and accommodation facilities for students and faculty members.
The delegation included High Court Registrar General Karma Wangchuk Bhutia, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Department Secretary Suraj Chettri, Buildings and Housing Department Principal Chief Engineer Yadunandan Gautam, and SNLU Vice-Chancellor-in-Charge Rajendra Dhar Dubey. Other officials and local panchayat representatives were also present.
