(ANSA) - TOKYO, 23 OTT - A bridge between Italy and Japan built on a shared passion for motorsports, as well as for fashion, design, technology, and lifestyle. This is the central theme of “Motorsport Day 2026,” held at the Italian Embassy in Tokyo to mark the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. During the event, a new initiative linked to the Mille Miglia was unveiled, scheduled for April 2027 between Nara and Kyoto to celebrate the centennial of the historic Italian race. Princess Yōko of Mikasa was the guest of honor. Approximately 200 people attended, including Akio Toyoda, president of Toyota, along with representatives from automakers, racing teams, industry companies, drivers, the media, and the business community. For Toyoda, this was his first visit to the Italian ambassador’s residence—a significant occasion symbolizing Japanese-Italian exchange through the world of motorsports. On display at the residence were vehicles and products that showcase the history and technology of motorsports in both countries: from the Toyota 2000GT to the Nissan Nismo GT500, from the Ferrari 296 GT3 to the Haas F1 car, and including Pagani and historic cars associated with the Mille Miglia. Among the motorcycle manufacturers, Ducati and Aprilia participated. Speaking alongside Ambassador Mario Vattani and Princess Yōko, Toyoda focused on “automotive culture,” in which Italy plays a leading role, describing it as a “master” in terms of history, tradition, and technological innovation, as well as a “source of inspiration” for the future—including for the Japanese industry. The initiative aims to promote the technical expertise and appeal of Japanese motorsports worldwide, while creating opportunities for exchange and business between companies and brands from both countries.
