Coach Niko Kovac has extended his contract with Borussia Dortmund until June 30, 2029, the Bundesliga club said in a statement on Tuesday.
"Together, we've set a clear course for development and laid important foundations for the future. We want to build on that. We have a clear vision of how we play football, how we perform as a team, and what it takes to achieve our goals," Kovac said.
The Croatian was signed in 2025 when the team was 11th in the Bundesliga and led them to the Champions League qualification at the end of the season.
Last term, Dortmund were second in the league. Kovac, however, is yet to win a title with the club.
"With Niko Kovac, we've been on a very good path since he took office a little over a year and a half ago. He has consistently developed the team and is highly regarded within our club. Extending Niko's contract is also a clear sign of consistency and stability at Borussia Dortmund," managing director for sports Lars Ricken said.
Dortmund are currently second in the Bundesliga, tied on 13 points with leaders Freiburg. Next up, they face Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League on Wednesday.
