Ramanathapuram police have arrested a man who was absconding after hacking the BJP district vice-president with a sickle.
Muthusamy, 53, of Mullai Nagar, in Ramanathapuram, is the district vice-president of the BJP. On October 9, Sendhoorpandi, 49, from M. Karisalkulam near Sayalkudi allegedly hacked Muthusamy with a sickle opposite the Ramanathapuram Government Medical College Hospital and escaped.
Muthusamy sustained severe injuries to his left wrist in the attack and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Madurai.
The Ramanathapuram Town police registered a case and were conducting an investigation. It was revealed that Muthusamy had sent Sendhoorpandi for an overseas employment back in 2025, but had reportedly cheated him by sending him on an improper visa. Consequently, Sendhoorpandi returned from abroad and attacked Muthusamy.
Meanwhile, the police arrested Sendhoorpandi. He was subsequently produced before the Ramanathapuram court and remanded in judicial custody.
