It expressed concern over scenes depicting physical assaults on doctors.
NEW DELHI: Indian Medical Association has written to I&B ministry to urgently review the promotional content of Sunny Deol-starrer ‘Suryaa – Ant Se Aarambh Tak’, alleging that it generalises corruption in the medical profession and depicts violence against healthcare workers in ways that could erode public trust and put doctors’ safety at risk.In a letter, dated Oct 22, to I&B minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, IMA national president Dr Anilkumar J Nayak sought an impartial review of the promo video for the upcoming film and appropriate corrective measures from its makers. It also called for a ban or other action if justified under applicable law. The letter was also copied to the Union health and home ministries and the chairperson of National Medical Commission.IMA flagged what it described as the risk of portraying corruption and unethical practices as representative of the medical fraternity. While stressing that individual wrongdoing must be investigated and punished, it said the actions of a few should not tarnish the reputation of doctors as a community.
It expressed concern over scenes depicting physical assaults on doctors, nurses and hospital staff, particularly when such acts appear heroic or justified.
It warned that such portrayals could normalise violence against healthcare professionals, who already face safety challenges in hospitals. The letter said such depictions could fuel mistrust between patients and doctors, weakening the cooperation essential for treatment and healthcare delivery. It also warned that such negative portrayals could demoralise medical students and discourage young people from entering the profession.IMA said that while it respected freedom of creative expression, the same should be exercised responsibly when healthcare worker safety and public confidence in essential services are at stake.
