VJ Edgecombe was in fine form as the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Milwaukee Bucks 127-116 to go 3-0 in the NBA this season.
The Sixers rested LeBron James on Saturday night, but that didn’t seem to weaken them at all. Joel Embiid was the star of the show, while Tyrese Maxey and Jaylen Brown continued their fine form.
But Edgecombe’s contribution may have just been the reason why Philly won the game, and Maxey is not surprised at all.
Tyrese Maxey says he gets mad when VJ Edgecombe doesn’t do what he always does
The 76ers seemed to be in control for large parts of the game, but there was a moment when the Bucks looked like they were mounting a comeback.
Philly had a 16-point lead at one point, but that was cut down to three with just over two minutes left on the clock. It was getting a bit nervy.
However, Edgecombe produced a remarkable minute and a half. In 1:33 of game time, he had one steal, one block, one assist and two rebounds, and the Sixers went on to win the game by 11 points.
After the game, Maxey was asked if he was surprised by Edgecombe’s performance. He said no and claimed that he gets mad when the 21-year-old doesn’t do what he did against the Bucks.
He told reporters: “I’m surprised when he doesn’t do it. I get mad at him and call it, ‘Hey, go do that VJ stuff you do! That’s what I call.’”
Edgecombe, still only 21, is a phenomenal talent, and he has shown more than once this season that he belongs at the highest level.
With superstars like James and Embiid helping him behind the scenes, we are convinced Edgecombe is destined for greatness. All he needs to do is continue working hard and he will get there.
