Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka urged young filmmakers to produce short films on climate change, water scarcity, energy conservation, and other social issues to raise public awareness and inspire action.
Addressing the Bathukamma Young Filmmaker Challenge Awards–2026 at Shilpakala Vedika here on Saturday, he said the State government was committed to nurturing young cinematic talent and positioning Hyderabad as a major destination for the Indian film industry.
Mr. Bhatti said that although the Telugu film industry was based in Hyderabad, talented people from Telangana had not always received adequate opportunities in the past. Several directors, actors and producers from the State were now making their mark in the industry, he said.
The government was making efforts to attract leading film personalities from across the country and provide the infrastructure and conducive environment needed for the industry to grow in Hyderabad. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and the State Cabinet were giving serious consideration to the objective of making the city a major centre for Indian cinema, he said.
Mr. Bhatti observed that conveying a story in a two- or three-minute short film, which might otherwise require a three-hour feature film, called for considerable creativity and storytelling skills. The government was ready to extend the necessary support and encouragement to emerging filmmakers, he added.
Expressing happiness at the recognition of young talent through 29 awards across categories, including short films, songs, folk songs, influencers, and essays, Mr. Bhatti said he would watch the participants' films and explore ways to encourage promising filmmakers.
