The Mumbai Police have registered a case of attempt to murder against three unidentified persons in connection with the firing at Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff’s car in the Juhu area, officials said on Monday.
The case, initially registered by the Juhu police, has been transferred to the Mumbai Crime Branch in view of the seriousness of the offence, they said.
Unidentified assailants opened fire at Shroff's car on Sunday evening. The actor escaped unhurt, while his driver and another person were injured.
The police registered the FIR under Sections 109(1) (attempt to murder) and 3(5) (criminal acts done in furtherance of a common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant provisions of the Arms Act, an official said.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for the attack in a social media post that has gone viral. However, the police are yet to verify its authenticity.
With the Crime Branch taking over the investigation, officials are probing all possible angles, including potential links to the gang. Tracking down the three unidentified shooters remains a key challenge, they said.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said the police had obtained important leads about the identity of the accused and would arrest them soon.
Speaking to reporters in Nagpur, Fadnavis said the accused were operating from outside Maharashtra, possibly from abroad, and the police would coordinate with other states and seek assistance from central agencies to track them down.
“We will also track down their handlers, who hide elsewhere and send instructions from there,” the CM assured. “These are cowards who attempt to strike from hiding. Their attempts will be foiled, and they will not be spared”
Fadnavis said he had spoken to Shroff and assured the actor that the incident had been taken seriously and that he would be provided security.
