DK Shivakumar on Tuesday said he was ready to provide documents for any inquiry after the JD(S) alleged that a sting operation had targeted ministers and demanded a CBI probe into the matter.
The controversy has widened with JD(S) state president and Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy claiming the alleged operation was part of a larger attempt to target political opponents. He also said former chief minister Siddaramaiah was among its victims.
Speaking to reporters in the national capital, Shivakumar said, "Very happy. They are doing a good job, bringing to the notice of the state an important issue. I will respond. I will get all the documents and inform them. They have said someone should enquire (into the issue), let them give it (documents) to them." He also said, "Time alone will answer Kumaraswamy's allegations."
On Monday, Kumaraswamy had asked why the Karnataka government had not ordered an investigation into the alleged sting operation.
He alleged that Shivakumar held a lengthy meeting with a person purportedly linked to sting operations at a five-star hotel in Bengaluru, and demanded a probe into the alleged targeting of some Cabinet ministers.
On Tuesday, he stepped up the attack by seeking a CBI probe, saying, "Everything will come out if there is an investigation. How can you keep the matter under wraps and say that time will answer?" He also alleged that the CM was behind the purported sting operations.
Kumaraswamy further claimed that Siddaramaiah was a victim of the operation and that it might have led him to give up the CM post.
Siddaramaiah has approached a court seeking an injunction on what he described as "false publicity" against him on social media.
Shivakumar was in the national capital to take part in the INDIA bloc's protest march against SIR, and returned to Bengaluru after completing his engagements.
In sum, Shivakumar said he was ready to submit documents for any inquiry, while Kumaraswamy pressed for a CBI probe and linked the alleged sting operation to an attempt to target ministers and political opponents, including Siddaramaiah.
