Bamburi Cement Plc won three top honours at Kenya’s Road Safety Excellence Awards 2026, recognising its use of technology, driver welfare programmes and transport safety management to improve road safety.
The cement maker took first place in the Driver Safety & Wellness, Road Safety Champion and Road Safety Innovation categories at a ceremony held at Serena Hotel in Nairobi.
The awards were organised by the Automobile Association of Kenya in partnership with the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, recognising efforts to improve road safety across the country.
Bamburi’s driver safety programme includes a Digital Driver Pass, in-vehicle monitoring systems, a ban on night driving and audited defensive driving training, measures intended to strengthen driver accountability and improve oversight of transport operations.
Its transport safety programme covers more than 1,000 drivers and over 25 transport partners, extending safety standards beyond its directly owned fleet.
The company also won the Road Safety Innovation Award for its Transporter Safety Maturity Audit Tool, a weighted scoring system that assesses transporters across five road safety pillars. Bamburi said 16 transporters had been profiled using the tool, which has also been applied to rail operators.
“Road safety is a shared responsibility, and we remain committed to strengthening our safety practices and ensuring that every journey is undertaken with the highest regard for human life,” Supply Chain Director Mohamed Kassim said.
The awards highlight Bamburi’s efforts to combine driver training, monitoring technology and data-driven assessments to promote safer transport operations across its supply chain.
Bamburi Cement is a member of the Amsons Group and has operated in the region for 70 years. Its subsidiaries include Bamburi Special Products Ltd, Bamburi Eco Systems Ltd and Diani Estates Ltd.
