Super Falcons forward Rasheedat Ajibade said she is doing well after sustaining an injury during Nigeria’s third-round 2028 Los Angeles Olympic qualifier against Comoros at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ogun State on Tuesday.
Ajibade was forced off in the 23rd minute of the match after a collision with a Comoros defender, with Folashade Ijamilusi replacing her as Nigeria beat Comoros 5-0 to advance to the next round of the qualifiers on a 7-0 aggregate scoreline.
In a statement on Thursday, the Paris Saint-Germain said that she was excited about the team’s progression to the next round, stating that medical consultations were ongoing about her injury but noted that she was in good spirits.
“Another international break has come to an end, and I am grateful. It is an honour to lead this group of women. I am proud of how our team began its road to the Olympics, and of the unity, discipline, and fight each player brought to the national team.
“I also want to address the incident that happened to me during the 2nd leg against Comoros. Scans and medical consultations are ongoing and more updates will be shared when available. At the moment, I am doing okay and my spirits are high,” the 26-year-old stated.
She also thanked everyone who reached out to her following the incident, as she was seen in visible pain while being helped off the pitch.
Ajibade added, “To everyone who reached out with messages, prayers and kind words, thank you from the bottom of my heart. To my teammates, family, our technical and medical staff, and our fans: I felt every bit of your love and support. For now, my focus is on recovery and returning stronger for club and country.”
