Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday, October 12, expressed hope that the fast-track court hearing the case related to singer Zubeen Garg’s death would deliver justice, as public demands for accountability continue.
Responding to questions about the protests led by Garima Saikia Garg and members of the Zubeen Garg Fan Club, the Assam CM said the government could not comment on matters pending before the Gauhati High Court or the Supreme Court.
However, referring to the proceedings before the fast-track court, the Chief Minister expressed confidence in the judicial process and said the case had been receiving regular attention.
“We are hopeful that we will get good justice from the fast-track court,” he said.
The Chief Minister also pointed to the continued hearings in the case, expressing hope that the proceedings would ensure justice for the late singer.
His remarks come amid renewed protests demanding justice for Zubeen Garg, with his wife, Garima Saikia Garg, and members of the singer’s fan club raising concerns following the Gauhati High Court’s decision to grant bail to accused Amritprabha Mahanta.
The bail order has triggered questions from the singer’s family and supporters about the implications of the decision as the trial continues, and concerns about the safety of those seeking justice if other accused are released. A chargesheet has been filed against seven accused, and a special fast-track court has been constituted to conduct the trial.
Further, the supporters are demanding that those found guilty be punished and justice be delivered through the ongoing judicial proceedings.
