The trade deadline was a topic of conversation for General Manager John Lynch on Friday.
Lynch was a guest on KNBR and he was asked if calls are picking up with the November 10 deadline drawing closer. Lynch said that the calls have picked up of late and that the team has made its own “just to kind of see where the market’s at” right now.
Lynch was also asked specifically about interest in Chargers pass rusher Khalil Mack.
“I can’t tell you that,” Lynch said, via 49ersWebzone.com. “A lot of people ask me that. We seem to be connected to everyone, and I don’t know where that comes from. I had a player ask me that yesterday.”
Lynch eventually named tight end George Kittle as the inquisitive player, which isn’t surprising “because he asks about everything.” Kittle’s interest in the prospect makes sense, however. The 49ers are 5-0 and should feel good enough about their chances to make a run that they’d be willing to bolster the roster ahead of the deadline. On the other hand, the Chargers are 0-5 and should be considering picking up assets for the future with this season headed off the rails.
