British$$
English-inspired micro-pub for pies, Guinness on tap and Britpop.
The heritage-listed Fellworth Flats, one of the few sandstone structures remaining in Bondi, now houses this cosy little pub devoted to Britpop, mushy peas and Guinness on tap. Cushy booths, sandstone walls and Cheers-style stained-glass lightshades give it a beautifully nostalgic feel, while a hand pub pours Beekeeper’s own beer, the Newtown-made Keepers Cask ale.
Cocktail highlights include two-sip thinking negronis, martinis and a Clover Club – gin, dry vermouth, a little raspberry syrup and a squeeze of fresh lemon, shaken over ice until frosty. If you’re feeling suboptimal, there’s an excellent Bloody Mary with plenty of Worcestershire sauce, which they’ll allow you to turn into a Bloody Maria (tequila instead of vodka) or a Red Snapper (gin instead of vodka or tequila).
The food menu is full of hearty food like the comforting steak pie with flaky pastry, creamy mash, peas and a pool of gravy. See also the Cumberland sausage, mash, caramelised onions and gravy. It’s the kind of place that’s hospitable, family-friendly and dog-friendly, with a casual vibe that’s tightly run at the back end.
Best for: Hand-pumped ales, Britpop and pure comfort pub grub.
