Meta $META's Muse AI agent passed 10 million U.S. downloads within 40 days of its launch, according to TechCrunch.
Sensor Tower, a market intelligence firm, recorded 10.9 million Muse installs since the app arrived in September, and 10.2 million of those were American, according to TechCrunch. Sensor Tower senior insights analyst Kara Lee said 11 other apps have reached the milestone after launch, with Meta's Threads the most recent, in July 2023, according to TechCrunch.
ChatGPT drew 3.7 million American downloads over its opening 40 days, according to TechCrunch. Grok and Claude logged 500,000 and 200,000. ChatGPT's global downloads in that period totaled around 15 million, more than Muse's. Muse has launched only in the U.S. and Canada, whereas Japan, Brazil and Germany were among the markets where ChatGPT's app found an audience, according to TechCrunch.
Muse also retained more U.S. users than its AI rivals, according to TechCrunch. It kept 30% of users after 7 days and 23% after 14 days, while ChatGPT, Claude and Grok averaged 19% and 16%, respectively. Muse’s daily active user count hit 2.5 million on Oct. 16, which was 15% higher than a week before, according to TechCrunch.
Meta has increased advertising for the app, according to TechCrunch. Muse took 39% of Meta's overall ad budget in October, versus 23% the previous month. The app sits 21st among U.S. brands when ranked by ad impressions for October so far, having placed 73rd the month before. Meta's family of apps has 3.6 billion daily active users, according to TechCrunch.
Meta launched Muse on Sept. 8. The personal AI agent can send emails, book travel, fill out forms and make purchases on a user's behalf, the company said. Sensor Tower projected the app had reached 5 million downloads in 22 days, faster than ChatGPT, Grok and Claude.
The growth comes amid privacy concerns. Security firm Claroc said its researchers found more than 6,800 links to shared Muse conversations through public DNS records, and some pages held personal records and internal business documents. Meta has paused the sharing feature as its investigation continues, according to 9to5Mac.
