SHILLONG, OCT 23: Putting to rest speculation over a cabinet reshuffle, Deputy Chief Minister and NPP State President Prestone Tynsong on Thursday said there were no preconditions for the three former UDP MLAs who recently joined the NPP and that the current cabinet already has its assignments.
Asked specifically if one of the three former UDP legislators would be accommodated in the cabinet, Tynsong said curtly, “In the cabinet it is already there, they have their assignment.”
On reports claiming that Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh would be inducted, Tynsong said, “Like that, I don’t know. I wanted to know from you, you tell me. I am Deputy CM but I don’t know anything about that. I think I knew from you only, so can you tell me who told you like that. I am asking you because I also don’t know.”
He also denied any pressure from the BJP for more berths after eight former UDP MLAs joined the party recently.
“No such pressure, nothing of that sort,” he said.
On whether any assurance was given to the three legislators who switched from UDP to NPP, Tynsong clarified, “As far as our newly inducted MLAs from UDP to NPP are concerned, there is no such preconditions whatsoever.”
Tynsong said he is touring and meeting party leaders at all levels to gear up for the bypolls.
“I wanted as state president of the party to meet all the leaders not only from the district but even in the constituency and village level. Today I spent quite a number of hours to meet them and discuss with them about the preparation that we have made and how to be ready to face the byelection which is to be held very soon,” he said.
