CCAP Blantyre Synod Moderator Right Reverend Missie Kananji Spiki has urged politicians to keep partisan conflicts out of places of worship, following reported disturbances at the church’s 150th anniversary thanksgiving celebrations in Blantyre.

Speaking during the landmark event, Spiki said churches should remain places of peace and fellowship rather than political confrontation.
“The church should not be a place where political party cadres should be fighting. Let people attend service of worship and return home peacefully,” she said.
Her remarks came after opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) officials alleged that supporters linked to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) attacked opposition figures and damaged vehicles as party members attempted to attend the celebrations at the Henry Henderson Institute (HHI).
The alleged incident has cast a shadow over what was intended to be a historic occasion marking 150 years of the CCAP Blantyre Synod’s contribution to evangelism, education and healthcare in Malawi.
While neither Spiki nor the Synod leadership directly referred to any political party, her comments appeared to be a clear appeal for restraint amid mounting political tensions surrounding the event.
The DPP had not commented on the allegations at the time of publication.
